About the Partners
www.charityapple.org has been originally initiated by the Rotaract Club of Colombo and currently the initiative is a partnership among the Rotaract Club of Colombo, Consortium of Humanitarian Agencies (CHA), and Volunteerism Information and Coordination Centre (VOICE).
About Rotaract Club of Colombo
The Rotaract Club of Colombo was founded in 1969 and is registered as a non-profit making social service organisation under Rotary International. Thus, the Rotaract Club of Colombo falls under the guardianship of the Rotary Club of Colombo.
The Club engages in four avenues of service namely, Community Service (a common passion amongst the members to serve humanity to the best of their individual capacities); Professional Development (whereby the youth can strengthen their knowledge, skills, and talents); International Understanding (broadens horizons and embraces foreign cultures and traditions); and finally Club Service (a means for the members to bond and enjoy the Rotaract movement harmoniously).
About CHA
CHA was founded in April 1997 to serve a membership and has since become a national service provider in the non-profit sector. It is representative of the resources and work of the humanitarian sector in Sri Lanka and is an association of agencies working in, and supporting work in, Sri Lanka. During the past 12 years, CHA has been functioning as a network of humanitarian agencies and has developed a fully-fledged Secretariat with its own specific capabilities.
As a network, CHA undertakes tasks such as, membership ethics, coordination and linking, and advocacy and lobbying, in addition to acting as an Information Centre on behalf of its members.
About VOICE
The United Nations Volunteers' (UNV) execution phase of the VOICE project will involve facilitating the legislative process that will lead to the establishment of VOICE as a statutory body where the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) commits itself to sustained support for VOICE as the premier volunteer promotion agency in Sri Lanka. It operates to see the rich heritage of volunteering, which exists in Sri Lanka, transformed into a dynamic tool for social development.
The project will also develop and cement collaboration between the GoSL and all sectors of civil society for the development of volunteerism as an important mechanism for poverty eradication, gender equality, youth development, and peacebuilding.
